Paramount Plus will soon have a new offering to entertain streaming crowds: Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated historical sequel Gladiator 2.
The follow-up to Scott’s Oscar-winning 2000 epic stars Paul Mescal as Lucius — the young boy in the first film who idolized Russell Crowe’s Maximus. Lucius’ mother Lucilla, who was Emperor Commodus’ sister in the original film, is played by returning actress Connie Nielsen. Gladiator 2 is set many years later in ancient Rome and sees Lucius “enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors,” according to an official synopsis.
Gladiator 2’s cast also includes Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz and Derek Jacobi, who reprises his Gladiator role as Senator Gracchus. If you want to stream the vengeance-filled spectacle, here’s when Gladiator 2 hits Paramount Plus.
When to watch Gladiator 2 on Paramount Plus
The action epic will drop overnight on Tuesday, Jan. 21, for folks in the US and Canada. Based somewhere else? Paramount Plus said Gladiator 2’s “availability in additional international Paramount+ markets will be announced at a later date.”
If you don’t have Paramount Plus and want to watch Lucius’ journey in Gladiator 2, you can sign up for either the ad-supported Essential plan, which costs $8 per month, or the Paramount Plus with Showtime plan, which costs $13 per month. The sequel film is also available to rent for $10 at Amazon and Fandango at Home. The first Gladiator is also streaming on Paramount Plus.
Paramount Plus’ plans differ in a few ways. Opting for the Showtime plan limits commercials to appearing on “live TV and a few shows.” The pricier plan also adds Showtime programming, the ability to download titles and your local live CBS station. You also have the option to save on the Essential or the Showtime plan by paying for a year upfront.
